About LY Malaysia
Laughter Yoga may have started in Malaysia many years ago. As for the group that calls itself the JB Laughers, it distinctly started in September 2008 and with a big bang.
The bang has not subsided......it is getting louder! Lee-Jean, a certified laughter yoga teacher, trained by Dr Madan Kataria in Melbourne on August 2008, brought Laughter Yoga to Johor Bahru (JB), the capital city in Johor, Malaysia. Lee-Jean's dream is to have laughter groups in all the parks and gardens of Johor Bahru. Her first Certified Laughter Yoga Leader program was conducted in Sept 2008 and till date, 31 of such programs have materialized. More than 400 Certified Laughter Yoga Leaders, who hail from various states of Malaysia including Johor, Malacca, Selangor, Wilayah (Kuala Lumpur), Pahang, Penang, Sarawak and even the country of Singapore, can call themselves graduates of the program.
The first Laughter group was formed in 16th September 2008 within the Breast Cancer Support Group of Johor Bahru. Now there are many such groups that meet regularly for Laughter Yoga sessions in the mornings.
Laughter has been much sought after in Malaysia. To facilitate the sharing and spreading of Laughter Yoga to Malaysians, the formation of JB Laughers materialized. JB Laughers has shared laughter with the Rotarians, Toastmasters, Lions, schools, hospitals and many other NGOs. They regularly participate in the annual JB Arts Festivals, charity events organized by NGOs, hospitals..... to have the JB Laughers turn up at an event in JB is getting to be more common!
The World Laughter Day was celebrated in 2009 and every year since on the first Sunday of May. The first held on 3rd May 2009 saw more than 70 participants and the second on 2nd May 2010 attracted about 400. All World Laughter Day celebration attracted media attention and future such event promise fun to all who turn up.
