Lee Jean Fung- A Profile
Lee-Jean Fung is a practising pharmacist for over 30 years. She is a director with My Pharmacy (Malaysia) which is a chain of 13 retail pharmacy outlets. In 2009, she received the Pharmacist-Entrepreneur of the Year award organized by the Malaysian Pharmaceutical Society.
Lee-Jean believes in life-long learning and pursued her Masters Degree in Business Administration from the Strathclyde University in 1998. She is a recipient of the Tun Hussein Onn Renewal Award (THORA) and has participated in the Patch Adams’ Clowning & Caring project in Mexico (April 2010). Since attending a Clown Workshop in 2006, she has conducted numerous Clown Workshops for fund-raising and for charity. Lee-Jean was a delegate of the Women Peace Group to North Korea in 2007. She is also an accredited trainer with Specialist Management Resources, Malaysia.
In August 2008, she was trained by Dr Madan Kataria as a Certified Laughter Yoga Teacher (CLYT) in Melbourne, Australia. Lee-Jean actively conducts Certified Laughter Yoga Leader (CLYL) programs and in a span of less than 6 years, she has conducted 8 of these programs resulting in more than 350 CLYL graduates. Her vision is to have Laughter groups in all parks and gardens of Johor Bahru, a city in Malaysia. Now, there are several of such groups in Johor Bahru and she had helped organized the annual World Laughter Day in Johor Bahru for 4 consecutive years.
One reason why Lee-Jean was interested in the laughter exercise was because of her happy, carefree childhood. Her years at the Canossian Convent also spurred her to bring laughter back into her life. When she first ventured into the pharmacy business in 1991, it was all work and no play. She totally forgot how to laugh because she was working so hard. However, as a pharmacist, she believes that laughter is still the best medicine as it is healthier and cheaper.
Lee-Jean feels that laughter is a powerful tool we have but which is under-utilised. Every one has the right to know about this tool and how to use it to its fullest potential.
